Kevin Nelson, Therapy Center Coordinator, is a certified, licensed
occupational therapist (OT) within New Jersey. He graduated with honors from
Kean University, with a Bachelors of Science in Occupational Therapy.
Kevin has been practicing with Trinitas Children’s Therapy Services for 5
years, and spent the last year as both a Senior Therapist and the lead
therapist within his district. During his time as a clinician Kevin has
worked with children between the ages of 1 ½ to 19. For Trinitas Kevin has
worked in the Summit school system for the last 5 years, providing
school-based OT services for the self-contained and inclusion preschools,
extended school-year (ESY), and general education children between the ages
of 5 and 12, as well as center-based OT services for the past year. Kevin
has also provided school-based OT services for the Bloomfield, Roselle, and
Elizabeth school systems, as well as TCI (The Children’s Institute) of
Verona, a school specializing in neurological disorders such as PDD and
autism.
In addition to his work at Trinitas Kevin also provides medically based OT
for 2 local hospitals on a contract basis, and early intervention OT
services for the past 4 years, during which he has provided direct services
and family education within the child’s natural home environment. Further,
Kevin also provided clinic-based OT services for a small private practice in
Northern New Jersey for roughly 2 years before relocating more locally.
Kevin has attended numerous continuing education during his time as a
clinician, including becoming an authorized provider of The Listening
Program® and completing his Certificate in Sensory Integration (SIPT). Kevin
has attended several Autism courses, an 8-week pediatric manual handling
course, the M.O.R.E.® course, Handwriting Without Tears®, and The Alert
Program: How Does Your Engine Run? ™ In the near future, he will complete
Interactive Metronome™ training so that he can better serve the children and
families with which he works.
Kevin has utilized his knowledge and experience to assist the community. He
has provided multiple in-services for parents and families regarding fine
motor and handwriting development, and sensory integration development and
strategies. Further, Kevin organized and supervised a successful special
needs karate program that ran for 4 weeks last fall, and has plans to run
this and several other special needs programs and camps throughout the
upcoming year.
Kevin’s latest accomplishment is to co-teach the “Advanced Seminar in
Occupational Therapy” pediatrics course at Kean University (Fall Semester
2006). The focus of the course is autism and the treatment of autism.
Kevin is extremely excited to have this opportunity as the Trinitas
Children’s Therapy Services Therapy Center Coordinator, and looks forward to
helping the practice continue to grow and be successful.
